I kind of see it as Basil being the good one on the shoulder and lord henry the devil on the shoulder
can some1 get into detail and break it down??
Can someone compare and contrast Basil Hallword and Lord Henry from The Picture Of Dorian Gray?
You're exactly right.
Basil is slightly naive, but very good. There's a certain purity about him.
Lord Henry, on the other hand, is profligate. It is he who first tempts Dorian and makes a life of dissipation look appealing to Dorian. He gave Henry that corrupting book. His teaching is what lead Dorian down the wrong path.
Isn't it interesting that Basil pays for his goodness with his life, but Lord Henry gets away scot free? (Actually, I'd have to amend that to Lord Henry SEEMS to get away without penalty, because there would be consequences of that lifestyle which may not be apparent to others.)
