Looking For a Children's Book?

When I was 3 or 4 (almost 16 years ago) my great grandma would read me this book about a little asian girl. I thought I'd packed it away but it looks like it's gone forever, and I can't for the life of my think of the name for it. The only thing I can really remember about it was that her name was Sophie or Sofie. It was a really colourful book and I loved it. If anyone has any suggestions, or knows the book just from the vague description it would be amazing if they could post an answer or email me at xloveisnot[[@]]g mail.com

Howl's Moving Castle--- main character is Sophie, but there's nothing Asian in the pictures so that can't be it.
