No likes just dislikes! my dislike... the whole book!!!
What are your likes and dislikes about "Tale of Two Cities" by Dickens?
I love the story. I realize some people find Charles Dickens' descriptive prose rather boring, but I happen to love it. The first paragraph of the book is one of the best beginnings I've ever read.

The only thing I disliked about the book was that some of the characters seemed a bit less than three dimensional to me. For instance, though he only plays a small part, Mr. Stryver seems slightly caricature-ish to me. Lucie seems almost faultless. Since by nature man has faults and flaws, that makes the character seem slightly less than real.

However, the story grabs you and gives you a clear picture of the French Revolution: the causes, the excesses, the vengeance. I understood the anger of the people for the aristocracy and some of the priests when I was finished this book.

Charles Dickens had a way of sucking you into his stories so that it seems you're observing the action from within the story; you feel like you are right there with the characters.

I hope this helps.
Reply:I loved the story, the plot and the characters.. There was nothing in it to dislike.. Some of the lines were so touching.. Especially the ones describing Sydney Carton's love for Lucie.. I loved the last lines of the book, Sydney Carton's unspoken last thoughts, and more importantly this line..

"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known.. "
Reply:the set-up dragged here and there (especially in the beginning) but the ending was great! Surprisingly, I was the only one in my class to figure out how it was going to end before it did. Dickens is great.... except for Great Expectations....not my cup o' tea....
